Jim and Tina Hoover’s Quartzsite tag-a-long came to an end after nine nights of fun and cameradery. Louis and Leona Keyser, Paul and Tandy Krugler, Pete and Mary Minnix and Ted and myself rounded out the members. We also brought guests Warren and Joyce Blakely into the tag-a-long for the week.
The RV Show was the big draw to Quartzite and we all attended the show numerous times (thankful for the shuttle) as we learned of something new someone else had found or after thinking over what we had seen. Most of us also took the opportunity to look at new and used RV’s for sale. I thought a couple of people were close to making a purchase! But alas, no one walked away with a new RV!
The group took advantage of the campground cafe being open this year! Reviews were mixed on the food but overall everyone seemed to enjoy. We also had lunch in town and dinner at the local Mexican restaurant. Saturday night we invited some friends of ours to the campground for dinner at the Cafe with the group. We had met them in Fresno and they are full time RVer’s. They were boon-docking for the week and it was interesting to hear about their experience.
We ended most days with a nice campground fire…thank you Jim and Tina! We had lots of stories and laughs and I think Tina managed to get a few campground card games going. In my opinion…a good time was had by all!
Several of the Traveling Supremes attended the annual Quartzsite RV show January 20th through the 28th. Those attending were Jim &Tina Hoover, Ted & Susan Kercher, Paul and Tandy Krugler, Louis and Leona Keyser, Dwight and Marilyn Winborn, Joe and Ardis Schenk and guests Rick and Linda Wahl. We stayed in Black Rock RV park in an area known as Brenda about 12 miles east of Quartzsite. Brenda was not a town but consists of a small store and several RV parks in the middle of the desert. Pictured are several of the TS members on the first night planning to attend the show the next day.
The RV show draws thousands of people to the tiny town of Quartzsite so the traffic is congested and the crowds are large. However, Black Rock RV provided a free shuttle service over to the show that many of us used. The main area is a huge tent that housed vendors of all things RV related as well other unrelated vendors that usually show up at these events. Outside the tent there was a flea market where you could buy anything from an RV to food to RV supplies and even rocks. Yes rocks! These people are serious about rocks and gemstones. In fact there are often gem and mineral shows several times a year in this area.
Although we stayed in a park with full hookups away from the hustle and bustle of the event many campers choose to boondock in the desert on government land where they can stay for a small fee. In fact it is an annual tradition with many of these campers. Literally thousands and thousands of RVs are in the desert as far as the eye can see.
Since this was a tag along most of the things we did were not really planned but more spontaneous. As always though we found time to go out to eat together. The wait times were long at most restaurants but well worth the wait to enjoy some food and fellowship together. Shown here are Traveling Supremes at “Dos Amigos” and “Silly Al’s Pizza”.
Tina and I plan to attend the 2018 Quartzite AZ RV show. The date of the show is January 20th – 28th 2018. We have decided to invite others to tag along. We made reservations for Jan 19th to the 29th at the Black Rock RV Park in Brenda about 17 miles from Quartzite. They run a shuttle over to the show several times a day. If anyone wants to go, this will be a tag along. No agenda, no pot lucks, etc. Make your own reservation. Arrive and depart at your convenience.
If you even think you might want to go, call soon: 928-927-4206. Talk to Chris and tell her that you are with the Traveling Supremes. She is the group coordinator. You will have to put up a $50 deposit. You can get back $25 of it if you cancel within 3 days. The other $25 is non refundable. For more information feel free to call, text, or email me.
