Yes we are having our annual TS New Year’s Rally while hoping the gas prices will be down some. This rally is usually well attended and we encourage you to mark your calendar and make plans to join us at the Toledo Bend RV Resort and Cabins (318-256-0002) which is located on the huge man-made lake, Toledo Bend, just east of the Texas border and about a half mile from the Pendleton Bridge near Many, Louisiana. The rally will begin on December 28 and we’ll leave on the 2 of January.
We need at least eight rigs to get the building for our use which is located near the water. Be sure and tell them you are with the Traveling Supremes to get your $10 nightly discount if we have the 8 rigs. They have another building with an exercise room and game room with plenty of tables for fellowship. The sites we will be in have some concrete and are mostly pull-through. Keeping mind that they do have cabins if you prefer.
Plans are being made for some touring but mostly we enjoy the New Year’s night gathering with “Dirty Santa” better known as stealing someone else’s gift. We’ll have snack night and we’ll be eating out at the Fisherman’s Galley which is a steak and seafood restaurant located less than a half mile from the park. More details will be emailed to you later and posted on the web page as the time draws near!
The Traveling Supremes gathered in Caldwell, Texas at Brazos Valley RV park on December 28, 2021, for some New Year’s fun together. Hosts were James and Gail Smith and James and Barbara Smith. Attending: Roger and Jo Marr, Jim and Tina Hoover, Steve and Lisa Merriman, Duane and Patty Stowe, Pete Minnix, Don Spencer, Polk and Linda Brian, Burnel and Marie Moreau, Jerry and Hessie Smith, Paul and Tandy Krugler, and Billy and Myrna Braly.
We took a tour in Brenham, Texas of the old Theater and Visitor Center and the underground cistern system that provided fire protection in the old days for the downtown buildings. Of course, we made a stop at the Blue Bell Creamery for a big scoop and tour!
Next we went to the spot where “Texas became Texas”—Washington-on-the-Brazos, the first capital after Texas declared independence from Mexico. The awesome Independence Hall, Star of the Republic Museum, and Barrington Plantation took most of the day to tour but were well worth it!
College Station was our next destination where we toured the Bonfire Memorial where 12 students lost their lives in 1999 when the bonfire fell. Our Aggie, Paul Krugler, narrated for us. We just got a glimpse of Texas A&M’s campus and Kyle Field as we traveled to the George H.W. Bush Library and burial grounds.
Breakfast is always an event and we feasted on Boilin’ Bag Omelettes furnished by the hosts in the morning on NY Eve. We partied hard on a seafood and steak dinner before games and gift exchange back at the RV Park clubhouse until midnight in NYC. So many laughs and memories!
After a great New Years’s day feast with all the trimmings, we went on our way again full of love and hope for 2022. Health and happiness to you all!
December 28, 2021-January 2, 2022 Brazos Valley RV Park in Caldwell, Texas
Get ready for a great celebration! The holiday season is fast approaching and we have solidified the plans for a fantastic New Year’s party and rally. Hosts for the rally are James R. and Barbara Smith and James H. and Gail Smith. We are holding 15 RV spots at Brazos Valley RV Park in Caldwell, Texas. You may make your reservation by calling Melissa at 979-200-3007 and ask for a spot with Traveling Supremes. Fee is only $35 per night and we have a clubhouse and all the trimmings!
As you may know this is near Washington-on-the-Brazos, the birthplace of Texas. We have tour reservations for the Star of the Republic Museum and the many historical sites there.
In addition, Caldwell is 30 miles from Brenham, (where Blue Bell ice cream is made), and 30 miles from College Station (the George H. W. Bush Library). All this in addition to our normal New Year’s Eve high-jinks! Please make plans to attend. We promise you a good time!
Hello Supremes,I hope that all of you are well. This year is almost gone and most of us are glad to see it go. I look forward to better times in 2021 and hope that our personal and family lives will be more normal. Along with that, maybe our traveling and camping can resume. Upcoming events include New Years at Colfax campground Dec 28 thru Jan 2. There are 4 rigs going at this time so it will be more of a tag-a-long with no planned activities due to social distancing.
Also, there are 5 rigs going to Quartzsite AZ arriving on January 16, then going on to Yuma after the show. This is also a tag-a-long with no planned activities other than fun and fellowship. Also planned for 2021 is our annual trip to Chama. Official rally dates are August’s 16 thru August 21 but as you know, Chama is more of a come and go as you please event.
If you have questions about these events or if you would like to host an event in 2021, you can call, text, or email me.Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.
January 1, 2020. A new year and decade begins. The Traveling Supremes wish all of you the very best for the next time period.
We slept in this morning, then met for another fabulous meal. No one can cook better than the TS family. And no one can eat any better! So most of us were there for one last chance to raise our calorie count. Some left early (hope you’re feeling better Linda), some immediately after, and some are still here for a while. Regardless, we wish you all safe traveling and good health. Look forward to seeing you in Quartzite or Elephant Butte or..
The first day of our 2019/2020 NY Rally saw rigs coming from near and far. TS members gathered and told tall tales and in general shot the breeze and got reacquainted. James Hoover started off the meeting at the happy hour with greetings and announcements.
Dinner was served, a most excellent Texas dinner of pulled pork, baked beans, and potato salad , followed by cherry and peach cobbler. We all helped ourselves and thanked Hessie Smith for her most excellent dinner preparation. We campers do know how to eat!
This was followed by a spirited game of bingo, where winners scored big White Elephant prizes. In fact, one of the prizes was a white elephant. And roosters, earbuds, cutting boards, candle sticks, much much more. It quickly came to 8:30 when most people our age go to bed and the evening drew to a close. More to come…
A few days ago I spoke with Charlene at the Antique Capital RV Park and was very pleased to find out that we now have 15 rigs signed up for our New Year’s Gathering! She also informed me that all had purchased tickets for the dinner show on New Year’s eve. That’s good news and even more good news is that there are still openings for sites and tickets so don’t miss out on the fun. If you aren’t signed up, call soon before they’re all booked!
Hessie sent me a copy of the flyer advertising the dinner and performance on New Year’s eve. I have attached a picture of it. Looks like fun! If you have already reserved your site, keep an eye out for additional information in the coming weeks.
Also, don’t forget about the tag along to Canton trade days
after the Gathering if you are interested.
I wanted to give a little update on the New Year’s rally. We now have 14 rigs signed up! How exciting! That means that we have one more site designated to the Traveling Supremes. The rest of the park is getting pretty booked up too so if you think you might want to go please call soon. It is The Vineyards of Fredericksburg RV park at 830-992-1237. Arrive December 28 and depart January 2. If need be, go ahead and get on the waiting list in case there are cancellations.
I will be sending out emails very soon to those who are signed up with more information.
Thank you so much for your interest in this gathering. Feel free to call or text me anytime.
We wish all members, their families, and guests a Happy Thanksgiving. One word of warning: before you tackle that turkey dinner, make sure you don’t exceed your RV’s weight capacity!
Also a reminder to make sure you are signed up for our NY rally. We will be having quite a lot of fun! You can see more here
Finally, the Laningas and the Cooks have made reservation at Port Aransas Port A RV Resort for January 3d through February 3d. This is not a rally or even a gathering, but if you show up maybe it will be! You can get the park info here . This is a high end park but monthly rates are reasonable.
