From Lou Butaud
Just a note to let you know what’s going on in our life. Carol and I have decided that our current home with six acres to mow and 1,000 feet of fence line to trim and lots of oaks to maintain, fertilizing, and the constant things to maintain with a property like this one is just too much for us to handle any more. We also believe this home has peaked in value and we are in a “Sellers” market here and going to a “Buyers” market in Lafayette. So, we are putting the house on the market within the next ten days or so and when it sells we will move into our RV.
We have already completed our Stage 1 move to a Boerne storage unit – moved about 6,000 lbs of stuff. Will move about another 6,000 in Stage II. And, that’s after getting rid of about 5,000 lbs of “stuff”. We also looked at a retirement village here in Boerne, but after visiting, decided that was not for us. And, we looked at Garden homes in Boerne. But to duplicate a home like we can buy in Lafayette, it would cost us about $80,000 more in Boerne. Once this home sells and after we clean up some loose ends in Boerne, like MD appointments and such, we will move the RV to Lafayette and begin house hunting.
As a result our traveling days will be over until we can get resettled – and then, we will reconsider what we want to do going forward. Hopefully, we will be resettled by September. This has been a very difficult decision for us because we love this place. Wasn’t sure how Carol would react to all this when I first approached her with the idea, but she is probably more enthusiastic then I am. In fact, I sorta got cold feet a month ago but she squashed that idea. We will miss our friends in Boerne, but will be going to long time friends and family in and around Lafayette. We are pretty much exhausted from packing, sorting, “getting rid of stuff”, scheduling (and rescheduling) carpenters, painters and electricians, and all of the other jillion things that go with a move like this, but we feel we are over the first hill and now headed for the next one.
