Half way between Yellowstone NP and Glacier NP lies the town of Deer Lodge, pop. 3,100. We camped there, had some time, and found the Old Montana Prison. This was the first Montana prison, with a rather notorious history of greed, corruption and prisoner abuse (it was built primarily with convict labor). It now houses 5 museums, we visited two: the Prison Museum, and the Car Museum. It was well worth the time. One of the nicest car collections we’ve seen in a long time, and the Prison tour was chilling. We recommend a stopover here! Below are just a few pictures I took:
