Chama, New Mexico. August 16 – 24, 2015.
The road leads to Sky Mountain RV Resort in Chama New Mexico! Although the official dates for the 2015 Chama gathering was August 16 – 23, many members arrived early or stayed late or both.
Present this year was the Hoovers, Butauds, Jerry Smiths, Denmons, Phillips, Brians, Kerchers, Evans, Bobos, Wards, Cooks, and hosts James and Gail Smith. We also had numerous guests, friends and prospective new members.
Chama is well known as a railroad town and the Cumbres and Toltec railroad still runs from Chama to Antonito Colorado providing tourists with a beautiful scenic ride through the mountains.
Once you arrive in Chama it is easy to see that the spring like weather is what keeps the club coming back. Most days reach a high of mid 70s although we had a couple of scorchers where the temps hit 80 degrees. The nights are usually in the 40s this time of year. This is a real treat to those of us that live in hotter climates.
One of the meals was “Hobo stew”. The Phillips provided the base stock complete with ground meat. Everyone else brought canned goods of their choice and added them to the pot. The results were of course delicious!
Bill and Julia, owners and operators of Sky Mountain, often provide entertainment for the guests of the park. One such example was the “Anslovers”, a very talented musical family. We were amazed at the talent of the kids since they ranged in age from 16 to 20.
Of course the Traveling Supremes love to eat out together and one of the favorite restaurants in the area is the Cliff View. It is in a remote location south of Chama situated deep in a pine forest. The trip there and back is an excellent opportunity to view wildlife. We did get to see some mule deer up close, but did not get to see any bears this time.
