New Year's Rally... Y2K+9
Red River Area of Louisiana
Colfax, Louisiana

December 29 - January 2, 2009

Hosts: Your Club's Officers

The group began arriving in Colfax on Sunday and our Rally officially began Monday, Dec.29th with a welcome dinner.

We had 21 coaches in attendance, one being our new members, John & Romola Laninga (see John's article in the Members Notes section).

The next day, Polk and Linda Brian cooked breakfast making their famous Freedom Toast, and then everyone went their own ways, some going sightseeing. It was on this day that we received the terrible news that our wonderful friend, Connie Butaud had passed away. It was very difficult to be festive with such news. New Years Eve, we all gathered for our Party, and decided it was fitting to have everyone that wanted, stand up and share a memory of Connie. There were a lot of interesting stories, as you might imagine if you knew Connie! We lifted our glasses to her and prayed she rest in peace.

We had our usual gift exchange, which was a success, with several gifts being "stolen" over and over again. But before exchanging gifts, we played a game we called "the Potato Race". The teams (BOYS against the ladies) had to sit on a chair, get the potato between their legs and walk across the room to another chair, sit down, deposit the potato and then their team mate had to do the same thing back to the first chair.....lots of laughing, as you can imagine, but we had a whole room full of great sports. By the way, the BOYS won a chocolate bar trophy. We may have to have a re-match next year!

New Years day found us having an early afternoon potluck, which was enjoyed by everyone. Afterwards, some played cards, karaoke and some just visited. All in all, under the sad circumstances, I think everyone had a good time.

We are sorry some of you had to miss this one....hope you can make it next year.
