GeorgiaRally09Georgia09RallyThe Spring in Georgia Rally is over and we certainly had a great time.  Yes, the weather did have a bit of a damper on our rally, but having a closed-in meeting area helped a lot.

Each day the thirteen couples attending the rally scattered and toured things that interested them.  We then returned and encouraged others to see what we had seen that day.  There is so much to see in the area for many diverse interests.  Nancy Skinner and Murray Yandt enjoyed the telephone museum since they had worked for a telephone company before.  Nancy demonstrated how the operators plugged in the calls.  Murray said he had never seen so many different phones in one place.

Burnell and Marie at
Calloway Gardens

One of the highlights for the group was eating fried green tomatoes at Bullock's. What does that tell you about our group? We combined that trip with a trip to Calloway Gardens in Pine Mountain, but was some what disappointed. Yes, the azaleas were beautiful.

Les Cook was anxious to visit the aviation museum, but was a little disappointed Ida said since he had seen some museums bigger than that one and he was concerned about the planes sitting outside.  Since I had not seen an aviation museum larger than this one, I was impressed.  But, keep in mind, Les is a pilot and sees things from a different view point.

Polk Brian kept going back to Plains to get peanut butter ice cream.  We did that so often that he was the only one getting out for ice cream.  Jim Fitzpatrick kept looking for some maple trees and finally found some which made him happy.  Polk and Bob Skinner also bought maple trees.  Burnel Moreau drove many miles in search of a rock shop which turned out to be a shop in the trunk of a car.  But, he bought some rocks and was happy.  You need to see the beautiful necklaces he has made out of his rocks.

Empty pool in Warm Sprins where Roosevelt took hot baths

Several of us attended former President Jimmy Carter's Sunday School Class and the Skinners, Odoms, and us, the Brians, stayed for the service and were able to have a picture taken with him and the former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.

All in all, I think everyone enjoyed the rally visiting the many historical sites and the desserts each night with coffee when they returned to camp.  Since we had no kitchen, our meals were limited, but I think we did a fair job in keeping them fed.  Wish you could have joined us.
