PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
11-09-09
Thanks to all the club members for your confidence in electing me President of the club. I look forward to working with the executive committee and all the members on all issues concerning the club. I am looking forward to a new phase of the club through rallies and gatherings in the coming year. The New Year’s rally will be my first as president and I want to encourage each and everyone of you to attend if at all possible.
I look forward to meeting all the new members and gathering more friendships. We welcome all of you and wish you a great experience in being in our club.
Thanks to all of you with your expression of thoughts and prayers in the passing of Linda's dad, Herschel Williams. We must continue to think of our members who cannot be with us due to ill health. Let's keep them in our prayers.
Travel safely, Jack Bruce |

Hope everyone survived the 4th of July. Gail and I spent our weekend here at the lake. We had 24 guests for Saturday, the 3rd, including 2 RV's parked in the front yard. Some of you know the "other" James Smith of Smith RV Center in Decatur. He was also at our home with his new wife, Barbara, to view the fireworks over Hell's Gate on Lake PK. This has been a busy spring and summer so far for us. We have attended several music venues, as we really enjoy listening to Texas music as well as Western Swing and many other types of music. We took the RV in late April to Turkey, TX for the Bob Will's Western Swing Reunion. While there, we ran into Sue and Joe Moore at the Caprock Canyon State Park camping area. They were also attending the reunion. If you ever find yourself on Hwy 287 in west Texas near Childress, this is a beautiful canyon area and well worth the 60 mile trip off of Hwy 287 to visit. It has great camping facilities and the canyon has beautiful colors similar to Sedona, AZ. This is the second largest State Park in Texas. Later this summer we are planning a quick trip to Colorado and New Mexico to escape the Texas heat. We’re looking forward to seeing many of you at the Sponsor's Rally in September and hope that all of you will join us for the rolling rally through Schulenberg and Kerrville immediately following it.

Remember the Rickles? We are on our way home to Pearl River after work kamping at the KOA in Adel, Iowa. We were lucky to have the Yandt’s visit, and when our tour was over the Lang’s came up to see us. With the Lang’s we headed to Michigan to see the Hauffe’s in Traverse City and picked up the Wellock’s for our rally at Boone, North Carolina. It’s so cold I cannot wait until we get home! In advance, let me thank you for your continued support of my efforts as your Treasurer. It’s been fun. See you on the road….

Hopefully, you have received your mass mailings I’ve sent telling about the upcoming and new rallies being planned. If you haven’t received an email from me, notify Maria with the corrected email address.
We have many new rallies being discussed and some on the books. Besides the Ohio and Kentucky rally in October of 2011, which is listed on our web home page, we are seriously planning one hopefully in June of 2011 called “Kicking-up Your Heels Rally” in Palo Dura Canyon, Texas, and hopefully one to Monument Valley and/or to the canyon country.
Yes, we are planning on having a New Year’s Rally this year but have gotten off to a slow start, but it is also in the planning stages and shouldn’t be long before it goes on the books, so keep an eye out for it on our web page and the next newsletter, which will arrive after the Lake Bruin and Lincoln Park Rallies.
Our Sponsor’s Rally for next year, 2011, will be in November and is tentatively on the park’s books. Since October is not a good time for the Gauthiers and we have two rallies in October of 2011, the rally will be scheduled for the second weekend in November. We’ll not have the “Gathering” that was on the books for September, since the rally date has been moved.
Come join us for the two back-to-back rallies, Lake Bruin and Lincoln Park, at the end of May here in Louisiana. Check out the home page for the details. Also, you need to plan on attending the Old Engine Show in Michigan in August. Our Sponsor’s Rally this year will be held at Rayne, Louisiana, in September. So, mark these on your calendar and begin recording the 2011 as they are posted to not have a conflict in the future. We hope to see you at all the rallies!!

I am sure that most of you know that Bobby has had prostate cancer. He had surgery in December and after the surgery we found that it had spread. He had 35 radiation treatments at MD Anderson in Houston. He finished that on July 20th. We are at home now and hopefully the cancer is gone. We found that when one has cancer you just learn to take things as they come and deal with them one at a time.
The day Bobby finished his radiation we heard that Rusty Braswell had died. Pat and Rusty had been members of the club for a number of years. They sold their Travel Supreme a while back and have been sticking around the house. Right before Bobby started his radiation treatments Rusty and Pat came over and had lunch with us and visited for a while. That was our last visit with Rusty.
Luckily Bobby was feeling well enough for us to attend Rusty's memorial service on July 24. Jack and Linda Bruce were there also.
If you never met Rusty, you missed a real treat. Probably everyone in the club can still hear him laughing as he tried to tell his Ollie and Lena joke. Rusty was CEO of a BIG mining truck manufacturing company and traveled all over the world. He had more adventures in his life than anyone I have ever known. He had some funny and some scary stories to tell. Rusty was one of a kind and a good man. We will all miss him.
Bobby and I plan on being at the fall rallies and hope to see you there.
