New Years...Y2K+8
Bluff Trails Ranch RV Resort

Ingram, TX

December 29, 2007 – January 3, 2008

It was cold and sunny, but 19 rigs welcomed in 2008 at the New Year's rally held in Ingram, Texas at Bluff Trails Ranch. The facility is located in Texas Hill Country, outside of the Ingram/Kerrville area. Bluff Trails is a rally only facility, meaning it was just us Traveling Supremes partying! There were abundant deer and antelope playing on the grounds (watch out for their droppings!), a beautiful stream, a very nice rally room and an outdoor kitchen building.

The rally itself was hosted by our officers, and our welcome dinner on Saturday, the 29th, was spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and cobblers. What a start...and, of course, with two more potlucks and local restaurants, the only New Year's resolution that could possibly be made was that dreaded DIET! The New Year's day meal was the TS traditional corned beef and spicy cabbage and fried turkeys supplied by the Chapter, with all the other goodies prepared by all the ladies and men. But what happened to the leftover turkey and corned beef?

There were no planned activities, but there were enough attractions in the area to keep everyone busy. Fredricksburg and the Nimitz Museums, Texas' answer to Stonehenge and Easter Island, the Cowboy Artists of America Museum, the jeweler James Avery, the LBJ ranch and museum, Luckenbach (minus Willie and Waylon), the Gibson store, restaurants galore, and the beautiful Texas Hill country to name just a few of the activities one could see.

Each night the rally room was filled with card players (either Phase 10 or Sequence) or domino players, and most of the men huddled around the fireplace talking about (what else?) trucks and trailers. It was really great to see so many people staying around and visiting after the evening meal.

The highlight of the rally, though, was the New Year's Eve party. Heavy hor d'oeuvres means food and lots of it. The special entertainment was just that--special. Minnie Pearl (Burnel Moreau) acted as mistress of ceremonies. Her special singing guests were Donnie (Ida) and Marie (Les Cook) Osmond; Johnny (Sue) and June Carter (Joe Moore) Cash; Sonny and Cher (Polk Brian); Dolly Parton (Hersel Rigney) and Elvis (Ardis Schenk). They all did a marvelous job. Joe really did look good in that sequined dress. And Hersel, well, Dolly has nothing to worry about! Polk, though, did look a little dizzy after doing both sides of the Sonny and Cher hit, "Babe". Burnel, with the trademark price tag on his head, told stories worthy of the lady from Grinders Switch. Les...love those pink shoes! Ardis did a great job of imitating Elvis, even to playing the inflated guitar. Ida and Sue...great job standing by your ladies!

Even the gift exchange was fun--poor Dave Evans couldn't convince anyone to take his frou-frou package, yet ended up with homemade cookies. Tough on a diabetic, but he ate them anyway, in moderation. Candy's gift was Fire & Ice Pickles--he just can't get away from the spicy hot, can he?!

Nine rigs stayed on for one more day, and ten rigs left for their winter homes.

It was a great rally.
Thank you to our hosts for a job well done.
What a great beginning to a new TS rally year.
